Andrea Jenkyns, MP for Morley and Outwood, met with Prime Minister David Cameron to discuss the case of Abi Longfellow, a twelve year old constituent with a rare kidney condition.
Abi needs ten hours of dialysis a day due to Dense Deposit Disease (DDD), a rare and potentially fatal kidney condition. Her parents are campaigning for her to have access the drug Eculizumab, which is currently available on the NHS to treat other conidtions but not DDD, as it may make it possible for her to have a kidney transplant. After raising Abi's case at Health Questions last week Miss Jenkyns demanded a one-on-one meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss it personally. The Prime Minister met with Andrea on Wednesday afternoon and has promised to write back to her immediately. Andrea said "Having met with the Prime Minister I am assured that NHS England will review all the evidence that Eculizumab could be used to treat Abi and he has promised to write back to me about it as soon as possible. I have also spoken to Abi's parents to give them feedback on the meeting."
