Heroes Concert raises money for good causes

I organised a charity concert in aid of Leeds Womens' Aid and Help for Heroes. It attracted dozens of attendees and raised over £800 for the charities.

The event was held at Morley Town hall and featured performers from across the Morley and Outwood constituency, including vocal coach & singer Tony Wayne from Morley, Paige Smith & Paul Metcalfe from Morley Amateur Operatic Society, Charlotte Best, the children of Silcoates School, Stagecoach Wakefield, New Horizons Church Band, Liam Boase, and Andrea Jenkyns herself. After the concert was officially opened by Morley Mayor Cllr Wyn Kidger, the singers performed a mix of contemporary music and traditional Christmas favourites. The stage, sound, and lighting were ably managed by Chris  McAvoy, and Gayna & Howard Goalby. The event was sponsored by local firm Associated Waste Management.

I was overwhelmed by the generosity of people in Morley and Outwood. It was great to see so many people coming together to support two fantastic causes. All credit goes to the artists who performed in the concert, and the backstage staff, all of whom volunteered their time, without them it wouldn’t have been possible.

At Christmas time, we’re often surrounded by friends and relatives, but it’s important to spare a thought for those who can’t be with their loved ones. That’s why I hope the money raised brings some hope to the victims of domestic violence like those supported by Leeds Women’s Aid, and to those supported by Help for Heroes, our brave service personnel who have been wounded while defending our liberty overseas.
