The Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne visited Yorkshire on Thursday; firstly making a speech in Leeds to discuss their plans for Yorkshire and then stopping off in the Village Hotel, Tingley in the evening to show their support for parliamentary candidate Andrea Jenkyns.

Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Andrea Jenkyns took the Mayor of Morley Cllr Wyn Kidger, Town Centre Events Manager Racheal Kennedy, Mike Robinson from AWM (Associated Waste Management) and local businessman Martin Oddy to meet with the Prime Minister and Chancellor in Leeds.

Andrea Jenkyns said, " David Cameron and George Osborne spoke passionately about their six point plan for our region, which includes; Increasing the size of the local economy by an extra £13bn in real terms by 2030,  raise employment by 100,000 in 5 years, invest £6.4bn in local transport, building a global hub for science and technology by investing £17.5m in training for local small businesses and supporting The Welcome to Yorkshire Festival and local tourism with £1.5m backing and they are also keen o ensure that more powers are devolved to our county including a new Leeds devolution deal.’

‘I am confident that they will deliver on their plans, there is still more work to be done but we are seeing good news locally. in December 2014 the claimant count rate in Morley & Outwood was down by 52.8 per cent (2.1 per cent) compared to the month before the last election when the rate was 3.0 per cent. And in this Parliament, we have cut tax for an estimated 39,292 people in Morley & Outwood and taken 5,025 people out of tax altogether. I also couldn't resist showing them a copy of our fantastic local newspaper, The Morley Observer and the Chancellor took a copy with him’

Mike Robinson from AWM said, ‘As a Yorkshire based company that not only does business with four local authorities in the North, but also exports worldwide it was inspirational to hear the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer discuss such positive commitment for the region. Improving communication channels, high speed broadband, unity between northern cities and promoting the ease of passage for trade both north and south is at the forefront of the agenda. I see such commitment as a green light to re-invigorate business in the North and also escalate the Northern Powerhouse brand.
