Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude addressed a meeting of the Morley and Outwood Business Association (MOBA), organised by parliamentary candidate Andrea Jenkyns, hosted by Morley firms Archbold Logistics and Shopbox. At the event Andrea launched her business and skills survey, an online survey designed to find out what skills local employers are looking for.
Local business people gathered to meet Francis at the Archbolds office on Albert Road, Morley. Stuart Archbold addressed the meeting first, introducing his start up business Shopbox, a logistical and storage solution for supermarket deliveries. Francis Maude then addressed the room, he spoke of the growing economy and how the government is creating a Northern Powerhouse across the Pennines, he then took questions from the audience.
Andrea Jenkyns then spoke to introduce her Business and Skills Survey. “She said, after speaking to local businesses, teachers, and students, I decided to do something so young people in the Morley and Outwood area leaving schools, colleges, apprenticeships, and university have the best chance of getting a job locally, and so that local businesses can find the skills and expertise they need.”
She went on to say “Employment is up locally, and thousands of young people in Morley and Outwood are taking up apprenticeships. By taking this survey, businesses are helping young people in our community to get the best start in life. It’s available on my website and we’ll be emailing it out to as many local firms as I can.”
