Andrea Jenkyns, the Conservative candidate for Morley and Outwood has welcomed new figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in the constituency has been more than halved since the last election.
Figures just published show that since March 2010, 1,102 fewer people are unemployed, a fall of 52%. There are currently 1,039 people claiming JSA in Morley and Outwood compared to 2,139 when Labour left office.
In the last year alone, the number has dropped by 511, or a third of what it was. In Yorkshire and North Lincs, 139,000 extra people are now working compared with 2010. That’s more jobs being created in this region than in the whole of France.
Commenting on the figures, Andrea Jenkyns said:
“This is great news for Morley and Outwood as it means that more people are in work with the security of a good job and a regular pay packet. With firms like Genix Healthcare and Arena Group expanding and taking on more people, so unemployment will continue to come down, unless all this is put at risk by the election of a Labour government backed by the SNP with more borrowing and higher taxes.”
