Two local teachers have been honoured by Prime Minister David Cameron at a special reception.
Jonathan White, the headteacher at Woodkirk Academy and Sabiha Laher, the principal at Outwood Grange Academy, met Mr Cameron and Education Secretary Nicky Morgan at 10 Downing Street as teachers from across the country were praised for their work.
“Delivering the best schools and skills for our young people, so that they can fulfil their potential and get on in life, is a central part of our long-term economic plan," Mr Cameron said.
"With such dedicated and inspiring teachers in our schools I know we can ensure our children get the best chance to succeed. It was an honour to celebrate their commitment at this reception.”
The teachers were nominated for the trip to Number 10 by Andrea Jenkyns, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Morley and Outwood, who accompanied them to Downing Street.
"Jonathan and Sabiha are just two of the hundreds of fantastic teachers we have across Morley and Outwood, but unfortunately I could not take them all to London," Ms Jenkyns said.
"They are ensuring our children are having the best possible start to their lives and are making the most of their abilities.
"Schools across the constituency, including Woodkirk Academy and Outwood Grange Academy are challenging pupils and helping them to improve and education is a key of helping our country to continue to succeed.
"It was a privilege to take Jonathan and Sabiha to meet the Prime Minister and Nicky Morgan to tell them about the excellent work they are doing."
