Well, that's nearly it; just the voting to go.
What a journey it's been. Just over two years ago I put myself forward for selection to be the candidate in Morley and Outwood. I hadn't intended to stand for Parliament but then my Dad tragically died unnecessarily in hospital after getting an infection. That's when I decided I wanted to change things, not just to ensure the NHS was improved so that others didn't suffer his fate, but also that others, like me, have a voice that gets heard and don't just have to put up with what's dealt to them.
Over the years, I've tried to help those who have brought problems to me, I've got involved in major local issues like protection against inappropriate development, boosting Morley as a visitor and retail destination, set up a business association to support local businesses, organised a Jobs Fair that was attended by hundreds of job seekers and, most recently, supported the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in getting a new stadium. I've had the pleasure of meeting literally thousands of people locally, through them I've learnt a lot and I've even sung for them at charity concerts.
I’m sure I haven't got everything right over the last two and a half years and I'm sure I won't as the MP, but I know I'll carry on working my socks off for Morley and Outwood.
So one journey is ending, but another one will hopefully begin in the early hours of Friday morning. I'm excited!
